Knowle Hill was built in 1698 on the side of a ravine. In 1760 this house was pulled down, but the tunnel from the cellar to a mysterious rock cut chamber remained – what did he get up to in there? Something similar to the more famous Hellfire Caves? The building fell into ruin and even now is not fully restored, but you can stay in parts of it.

A curious place, well hidden. The private rock-cut grotto (with bats!) is great for cave-lovers by candle-light.
